Parity-violating Nucleon-nucleon Interactions: What Can We Learn from Nuclear Anapole Moments?
نویسنده
چکیده
Knowledge about parity-violating effects both from theory and experiment is reviewed. Further information that could be obtained from measurements of nuclear anapole moments is discussed.

There are several factors which lead to a huge enhancement of parity and time invariance violating effects in the Ra atom: very close electronic levels of opposite parity, the large nuclear charge Z and the collective nature of T,P-odd nuclear moments. Experiments with Radium may be used to measure it's nuclear anapole, magnetic quadrupole and Schiff moments. Such measurements provide informati...
متن کاملConsistency of parity - violating pion - nucleon couplings extracted from measurements in 18 F and 133 Cs
The recent measurement of the nuclear anapole moment of 133 Cs has been interpreted to yield a value of the weak pion-nucleon coupling H 1 π which contradicts the upper limit from the 18 F experiments. We argue that because of the sensitivity of the anapole moment to H 0 ρ in the odd proton nucleus 133 Cs, there is a combination of weak meson-nucleon couplings which satisfies both experiments a...
متن کاملThe Nucleon Anapole Form Factor in Chiral Perturbation Theory to Sub-leading Order
The anapole form factor of the nucleon is calculated in chiral perturbation theory to sub-leading order. This is the lowest order in which the isovector anapole form factor does not vanish. The anapole moment depends on counterterms that reflect short-range dynamics, but the momentum dependence of the form factor is determined by pion loops in terms of parameters that could in principle be fixe...
متن کاملMesonic Anapole Form Factors of the Nucleons
The chiral quark model posits pseudoscalar and vector meson couplings to constituent quarks. The parity violating meson-quark couplings lead to anapole moments and form factors of the nucleons. These arise both as parity violating meson loop fluctuations as well as exchange currents and polarization currents that are induced by the parity violating interaction between quarks. Because of cancell...
متن کاملNuclear anapole moments
Nuclear anapole moments are parity-odd, time-reversal-even E1 moments of the electromagnetic current operator. Although the existence of this moment was recognized theoretically soon after the discovery of parity nonconservation ~PNC!, its experimental isolation was achieved only recently, when a new level of precision was reached in a measurement of the hyperfine dependence of atomic PNC in Cs...
